Yongehurst Distillery launches Toronto’s first Rum

Yongehurst Distillery

Toronto – Yongehurst Distillery Co. is set to introduce its first product – a white rum called Harbour Rum – at its soft opening this weekend.

Located at 346 Westmoreland Ave near Dupont and Dovercourt, the new small-batch distillery was started by two long-time friends, Rocco Panacci and John-Paul Sacco.

Harbour Rum, the first locally crafted rum in Toronto, was produced using organic South American molasses and wild yeast harvested from Russet apples in Ontario. It’s distilled to 44% ABV and unfiltered.

“The molasses and yeast ferment into an incredibly fragrant beer, smelling of apples, cranberries and bubble gum, that’s then distilled into rum on one of the distillery’s two copper and stainlesssteel stills,” says Yongehurst.

A barrel-matured version of the rum is due out later this year.

The distillery will also carry a line of handcrafted soda syrups that include cola, ginger beer and tonic.

Harbour Rum will be available in 375ml bottles at Yongehurst Distillery’s opening this Saturday May 14, 2016 from 12-6pm.

A ful-scale grand opening is slated for later this summer featuring tours, a tasting bar and a patio.
