Ontario invests $486k into local beer and cider
Ontario – Numerous rounds of federal and provincial government funding this week awarded five Ontario breweries and cideries a total of $486,720.36.
Royal City Brewing in Guelph received $42,140 to assist in upgrading their packaging lines – part of $403,000 dedicated to 10 businesses in the Guelph area.
In Soutwestern Ontario, $2.1 million has been put into 33 local agriculture and agri-food businesses including 4 breweries:
London Brewing Co-op was awarded from $92,633 from Growing Forward 2 to support their brewery expansion. Also in London, Forked River Brewing Co. received $108,019 for automation equipment, cellar expansion, a canning line, and to increase labour effiecency.
Bayside Brewing Co. in Erieau which was provided $98,532.36 for a new canning line, and to improve operational and labour efficiencies, while Walkerville Brewery in Windsor got $99,264 for a new canning line.
“Food and beverage businesses form the largest employer of all manufacturing industries in Canada, accounting for one out of every eight jobs. Investing in the growth and innovation of these Ontario companies will contribute to our government’s goal of increasing Canada’s agri-food exports to $75-billion by 2025 and supporting the creation of good middle class jobs,” said Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
In eastern Ontario, Waupoos’ County Cider Co. received $46,132 to purchase and install equipment to help expand export sales from Going Forward 2.
